How Encouraging Franchisee-to-Franchisee Communication Fosters Growth and Success

‘In business for yourself, but not by yourself,’ is one of the many advantages and mantras of franchising. In addition to the comprehensive training programs, proven business systems and support services that franchisors provide franchisees with, encouraging and fostering franchisee-to-franchisee communication can also benefit individual franchisees and thus, the strength and growth of the franchise organization as a whole.
 
Both new franchisees and experienced franchisees within the network reap the rewards that franchisee-to-franchisee communication offers. Whether the topic of conversation is competitors, market conditions, or customer service, no one can relate better, to the unique issues and accomplishments that franchisees face, than their fellow franchisees. Franchisee-to-franchisee communication builds camaraderie, is extremely validating and creates opportunities for sharing strategies for success that can ultimately help the entire organization grow and thrive.
 
While supporting franchisees and continuing to strengthen the franchisee-franchisor relationship remains crucial, taking steps to also encourage and foster communication between franchisees can help franchise organizations make significant strides. Effective strategies for facilitating franchisee-to-franchisee communication include:  
  • Mentoring programs- By serving as mentors, seasoned franchisees take satisfaction in sharing their expertise and helping new franchisees navigate the business. In turn, new franchisees gain valuable insights that can help them progress, which speeds up the learning curve and accelerates their success.
  • Conference calls- Periodic conference calls offer ample opportunity for discussing a wide-range of relevant topics, industry developments and timely information. Online presentations can be used to complement and enhance the conversation. And conference calls and webinars can be archived and made available, on-demand for franchisees to access in the future. 
  • Online message boards for franchisees- Online forums encourage candidness and provide franchisees with an interactive platform for asking questions, offering advice and exchanging ideas.
  • Meetings and conventions- Company-wide meetings and events offer team-building opportunities and provide franchisees and members of the management team with the chance to connect in-person.
Franchisee-to-franchisee communication can lead to happier, more productive and more successful franchisees. For instance, rather than devoting a tremendous amount of time to grappling with a particular issue, a franchisee can turn to fellow franchisees for advice, and quickly gain useful tips and solutions, which enables them to overcome challenges and focus on building their business.
 
Just as good communication is vital for a strong franchisee-franchisor relationship, facilitating communication between franchisees is also important to a franchise organization’s overall growth and success.
